Dannex Ayrton Starwin PLC pharmaceuticals donates GHS50,000 to COVID-19 Fund

Dannex Ayton Starwin PLC has donated an amount of 50,000 Ghana cedis to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.

Making the donation, Chairman of the company, Nik Amarteifio, said the gesture is aimed at supporting government’s fight against the pandemic.

He urged Ghanaians to assist the government’s fight by adhering to the necessary safety protocols.

Last month, President Akufo-Addo announced the creation of the COVID-19 Fund with his three-months salary as seed money, to support the well-being of those likely to be severely hit by the disease.ADVERTISEMENT

According to him, the Fund, manged by an independent board of trustees and headed by former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, is to receive public contributions to help those who genuinely require it.

“I am announcing tonight the establishment of a COVID-19 Fund, to be managed by an independent board of trustees, and chaired by former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, to receive contributions and donations from the public to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable. I have directed the Controller and Accountant General to pay my next three months’ salary, i.e. April, May and June, into this Fund,” he said.

Other individuals including Archbishop Justice Ofei Akrofi, Jude Kofi Bucknor, Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, Elsie Addo-Awadzie are also serving as Board of Trustees of the Fund.

So far, many state and private institutions such as the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Bank of Ghana (BoG), and the Parliament of Ghana, among others have all made donations to the COVID-19 Trust Fund.

As at last week, the Fund had accrued a total of GHS 34 million in cash donations, according to Ms. Akuffo.
