GCB Bank launches G-Money mobile money wallet product

GCB Bank, one of the leading banks in the country, has outdoored its mobile money wallet service, G-Money, as part of the bank’s drive to take advantage of its country-wide branch network to deploy a digital payment service that fosters financial inclusion.

The mobile money wallet service is accessible via a host of channels such as USSD, the bank’s mobile banking applications, ATMs, point of sale devices and very soon would be available for use on WhatsApp.

Speaking at the launch of the product in Accra, Managing Director of the Bank, Anselm Ray Sowah, stated that the service is the bank’s response to a changing trend in banking where digital payment has become crucial in reaching hitherto unbanked population.

“G-Money will build a bridge across the financial chasm. This will extend banking services beyond the physical bank branch and offer round the clock service to power the national agenda of financial inclusion.”

“We are collaborating with the government to digitize payments, enhance operational efficiency and minimize leakages from the national purse,” Mr. Ray Sowah said.

Samuel Amankwah, Deputy Managing Director in charge of operations said the Bank would expose its application programme interface to local and international financial technology firms to provide complementary services through their channels.

He said the strategic collaboration with partners with outlets and other Banks would provide new possibilities to deliver value-added services to Ghanaians.

“The new service is the catalyst for extending basic financial services beyond the existing Bank branch networks,” he said.

“We will rely heavily on the solid and secure position of GCB to deliver the agenda of taking banking services to the doorstep of every Ghanaian”he noted.
